PIXEL PAWS - UPDATE WITHOUT LOSING PROGRESS

1. Close Hazel normally so your latest progress is saved.
2. Extract this entire ZIP into a folder.
3. Double-click Update Pixel Paws.vbs.
4. ALREADY UPDATED BEFORE? Select your CURRENT game in:
   %LOCALAPPDATA%\PixelPaws\Versions\<installed version>\game\Pixel Paws v3
Choose PixelPawsV3.exe there, NOT the original folder you unzipped.
The original folder has its own older save; selecting it brings back
that older progress. The picker prefers your Pixel Paws - Latest shortcut.
To locate it yourself: right-click that shortcut > Open file location.
FIRST-EVER UPDATE ONLY: select your original played game folder.
5. Review the saves found in your known installations. Compare saved time,
bond level, XP, time together, and remembered-answer count. Choose the
progress you want to keep. A warning flags other saves that may be newer
or further along. Confirm only when the selected progress looks right.
Other manually extracted folders may not appear in this list.
6. Use the new Pixel Paws - Latest desktop shortcut afterward.

The updater downloads the current official website release, checks its size
and SHA-256, and copies progress.json byte for byte into a separate install.
This includes all progress, memories and settings stored in that save.
It does not overwrite your old game or save. A second save backup is kept
beside the new game folder under %LOCALAPPDATA%\PixelPaws\Versions.
If the selected save changes during download, the update stops so you can
review it again. Saves are never merged or silently replaced with another.

For your next update, close Hazel and use Update Pixel Paws on your desktop.
Select the newest game you have been playing (the Latest shortcut's target).
Do not keep playing an older copy after updating: its progress is separate.

Windows-only, for existing Pixel Paws v3 players. No administrator required.
If Windows blocks scripts, do not disable your security settings; ask Sab
for help. The updater will not close Hazel automatically.
